As a single mother, childcare is fundamental to me because it's what allows me to provide for my family. If I did not have sufficient childcare, I would not be able to work and provider for my child. It's important to me for my child to be in a high-quality facility to ensure she's safe and I'm able to focus on my other responsibilities. Families in the community have this same need. I'm very fortunate that I have extended family able to care for my child when she is ill or schools shut down and I need to be at work. For many families, this is not the case and can jeopardize their career, especially single parents who do not have another parent who can alternate care for a sick child.
